Hi, my name is Vickie Guelker and I am very excited to be teaching 6th grade at Jim Maples Academy. This is my first full time teaching position, as I have been substitute teaching for some time now. After substituting every grade from K-12, I have come to enjoy the 6th grade level. I believe this is a very important molding year for students to make many discoveries about life, and expanding their knowledge to higher levels of education.
I graduated in 2012 from California State University of Bakersfield with a Bachelor of Arts degree
in Psychology with a minor in Child, Adolescent, and Family Studies. I have obtained the distinct honor as a lifetime member of the National Honor Society in Psychology.
I am married with two wonderful boys who are 16 and 19 years old. My oldest son Brandon, attends Porterville College as a sophomore majoring in Mathematics. He hopes to transfer to a university to obtain a degree in Electronic Engineering. Bradley, my youngest son, attends Strathmore High School as a Junior this year. He is active on the varsity water polo team, as well as, baseball, FFA, and 4H. His goal is to become a Veterinarian and is excited to have his first lamb breeding project this year. I have truly enjoyed attending every event my boys are involved in and volunteer to help whenever I can.
Two of my greatest loves are the ocean and travel. Being a certified scuba diver, I have enjoyed many adventures in different oceans around the globe. Traveling by a cruise ship, airplane, my 5th wheel travel trailer, or by automobile are all enjoyable to me. If it involves the beach and ocean, I’m there!!!
I love to see the joy on a child’s face when they make accomplishments, no matter how small or great. It is pure enjoyment to see my students everyday and I hope to be a positive role model and celebrate in their successes throughout this school year. I believe learning is a lifelong process that we all can embrace. I hope to learn as much from my students this year as they learn from me. My hope is we come in as very unique individuals and bond as a family throughout the school year.
